Princeton Community Japanese Language School

Adult /High School Japanese Classes 


All classes are held on Sundays between 9:00-12:00 am 
at Memorial Hall, Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ

Japanese 101, Elementary Japanese I (Fall)

This course introduces students to Japanese using daily expressions and sentence patterns. It stresses communication with Japanese people. An introduction to the phonetic HIRAGANA and KATAKANA writing system is included. The use of video and audiotapes enriches the understanding of the Japanese language, culture, and way of thinking. Open to students with no previous knowledge of the language.


Japanese 102, Elementary Japanese II (Spring)

This course is continuation of Japanese 101. It continues to focus on development of communication skills in Japanese. In addition to reinforcement of HIRAGANA and KATAKANA writing system, some Kanji (Chinese Characters) are introduced.

Prerequisite: JAPANESE 101 or equivalent 

Japanese 201, Elementary Japanese III (Fall)

This course is continuation of Japanese 102. Students will learn more sentence patterns for communication in Japanese, and practice reading and writing of simple essays. The conversational component will be enhanced by the practicing skits and by the use of audio-visual media.

Prerequisite: JAPANESE 102 or equivalent 

Japanese 202, Elementary Japanese IV (Spring)

This course is continuation of Japanese 201. Students will learn more sophisticate sentence patterns for communication in Japanese, and practice reading and writing of longer essays. The conversational component will be enhanced by the practicing skits and by the use of audio-visual media.

Prerequisite: JAPANESE 201 or equivalent 

*Courses above Japanese 202 may be offered based on enrollments.
