Community Course


Community Course (Grade 9 and up & Adult)

The Princeton Japanese School was founded in 1980 to provide an opportunity to everyone interested in learning the Japanese language and culture. The school offers comprehensive Japanese language classes on Sundays. In line with this objective, the school has established three unique educational divisions, which cannot be found in other Japanese language schools. The Community Course is intended for high school students and adults who wish to learn about the Japanese language and culture.

FALL SEMESTER

Japanese 101, Elementary Japanese I (Fall)

This course introduces students to Japanese using daily expressions and sentence patterns. It stresses communication with Japanese people. An introduction to the phonetic HIRAGANA and KATAKANA writing systems is included. The use of visual and audio materials enriches the understanding of the Japanese language, culture, and way of thinking. Open to students with no previous knowledge of the language. 

Japanese 201, Elementary Japanese II (Fall)

This course is a continuation of Japanese 102. Students will learn more sentence patterns for communication in Japanese, and practice reading and writing simple essays. The conversational component will be enhanced by practicing skits and using audio-visual media.

Prerequisite: JAPANESE 102 or equivalent

Japanese 301, Intermediate Japanese I (Fall)

This course is a continuation of Japanese 202. Students will learn more advanced levels of sentence patterns for communication, and practice reading and writing essays in Japanese.

Prerequisite: JAPANESE 202 or equivalent


SPRING SEMESTER

Japanese 102, Elementary Japanese II (Spring) 

Japanese 102 is a follow-up course to Japanese 101, designed to introduce students to Japanese using daily expressions and sentence patterns. Emphasis is placed on communication with Japanese people. Additionally, students will be introduced to the Kanji writing system. The course uses audio-visual materials to enhance understanding of the Japanese language, culture, and way of thinking. 

Prerequisite: JAPANESE 101 or equivalent. 


Japanese 202, Elementary Japanese IV (Spring)

Japanese 202 is a continuation of Japanese 201, which focuses on learning more sentence patterns for communication in Japanese. Students will also practice reading and writing simple essays. The conversational aspect of the course will be enhanced by practicing skits and using audio-visual media. 

Prerequisite: JAPANESE 201 or equivalent.


Japanese 302, Elementary Japanese VI (Spring)

Japanese 302 is a continuation of Japanese 301, where students will learn more complex sentence patterns for communication and practice reading and writing essays in Japanese. 

Prerequisite: JAPANESE 301 or equivalent.


Japanese 302, Elementary Japanese VI (Spring)

This course is a continuation of Japanese 301. Students will learn more complex sentence patterns for communication, and practice reading and writing essays in Japanese.

Prerequisite: JAPANESE 301 or equivalent
